This lavoir is nicely restored on the banks of the Canal de Bourgogne. The village website provides the following information:
"It was built in 1846 according to the plans of the architect Auguste Sirodot. In 1986 the two facade doors were redone identically, their state no longer allowing conservation measures. When these works were carried out, traces of the original colour of the frames were identified and archived by the restoration workshop. This colour could not be restored in place, the town having opted for a tinted wood look. The lavoir was the subject of a more complete restoration completed in November 2009 - the coatings were redone identically and the doors have returned to their original colour.
The work was made possible thanks to various public subsidies and the generosity of individuals as part of a Patronage operation of the Heritage Foundation."
Gissey-sur-Ouche is in department 21 – Côte d’Or and we visited this lavoir on 20th May 2019.
A photographic record of the lavoirs we have visited during our travels.
