Lavoirs de Brienon-sur-Armançon

One of the three lavoirs we found in Brienon-sur-Armançon which is in department 89 - Yonne and we visited them on 17th June 2019.

This one was locked up but you can see inside and see that the basin is circular. The building itself is square and there are iron drying rails. It also has deep recesses above the drying rails as shelving. The lavoir is of the impluvioum type.  It is on the Rue du Port on the south side of town.

Another one of the three lavoirs we found in Brienon-sur-Armançon.  This lavoir was built in 1762 and is spring fed with water rich in minerals. The basin is oval in shape and is of the impluvium style to catch rainwater. There are iron railings, fireplaces and also curious recesses that may have been for storing the garde genoux.  There is an information plate outside indicating that it is now a Monument Historique.

Another one of the three lavoirs we found in Brienon-sur-Armançon. This one had a hexagonal basin and iron drying rails. The lavoir is of the impluvioum type as well as being spring fed.
