Lavoirs de Germaine

We found four lavoirs in this village on 5th November 2019.  Germaine is in department 51 - Marne.

Rue du Moulin

This lavoir was restored in 2010 and is cleverly used to display plants.  It was pump fed from a stream and had a raised basin with three bowls.  It has hanging rails over the bowls and drying rails along the walls.

Rue de la Croix Verte

This lavoir is easy to miss as it is being used as a flower display and has no roof.  Looking closely, the sloping washing stones can still be seen.

Rue du Docteur Quentin

This lavoir was having Noël lights put up when we visited.  Like other lavoirs in the area it has three bowls and is raised.  I assume it was pump fed when used.

Opposite the mairie

Unfortunately this double bowled raised lavoir had recently been hit by a lorry.  The building was in danger of complete collapse so most of the structure has been removed.  When we visited it was decorated by the local 'Festival Theâtre'.
