Lavoirs de Vouécourt

We found two lavoirs in Vouécourt on 10th April 2021.

Rue de Verdun

This lavoir was built in 1862 to replace an older lavoir. The previous lavoir was being contaminated by iron ore in the water.  This lavoir is fed through a pipe running 2.400 metres from the hills. It is open to the public and water still flows into the basin.

Rue de la Biche

This was the original lavoir in the village. It was replaced by a lavoir on rue de Verdun in 1862 because this lavoir was being contaminated by iron ore in the water. The basin has been paved over and is used as a play area for children.
